15 april - CineScience Freedom Edition

The Wageningen Freedom Quarter and the Conflict Cluster of the Centre for Space, Place, and Society are happy to welcome dr. Kiki Santing from Groningen University to introduce The lions of the river Tigris, a movie about the reconstruction of Mosul, Iraq.

The film shows how post-war reconstruction is much more than a technical challenge. This is about a place where people lived, continue to live, or hope to return to. Reconstruction includes the remaking of communities torn apart by years of violence, displacement, and exile.

This film will be introduced by dr. Kiki Santing, assistant professor in Middle Eastern Studies at Groningen University. She works on contemporary issues of religion and politics in the Middle East. For her current research she has travelled repeatedly to north Iraq to interview people engaged in reconstruction.
